Specialist Registrar Training Scheme Anaesthesia

ROTATING SPECIALIST REGISTRAR ANAESTHESIA

Date published: 19 October 2006

Closing date: 03 November 2006

Applications are invited for 12 Rotating Specialist Registrar posts in Anaesthesia, commencing in February/March 2007 to join the 5 year programme in this Deanery, based on the teaching centres in Cambridge, Norwich and Papworth, coupled with the District Hospitals in Bedford, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Kings Lynn, Luton, Peterborough and Yarmouth.

These posts could be for trainees wishing to obtain advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine. The scheme also offers a College approved extended training module in chronic pain management. There will be posts starting at Norwich, Cambridge and also for 6 months at a number of peripheral hospitals before moving to a teaching centre. Definitive placements will be available at interview. During the first 2 years of the programme trainees will receive modular training in the sub-specialties. Formal teaching during year 1 centres on the Anglia day-release Final FRCA course. Once the FRCA has been achieved, an academic attachment may be available, particularly directed at improving teaching, critical review and basic research skills. The third and fourth years, spent at District Hospitals, include organised training and experience in management and administration, audit and teaching. There is ample opportunity to conduct clinical research. The final year, based at a Teaching Centre, is tailored to suit the Consultant aspirations of the trainee. There are excellent facilities for intermediate and advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine, including the possibility of a 6 month post in General Medicine.

This programme is for doctors who wish to obtain a CCT in Anaesthesia, who have completed at least two years approved training in Anaesthesia, and who have already passed the Primary FRCA examination (or equivalent). Applications from candidates who require a work permit to work in the UK may not be considered if there is a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that these placements and/or programmes have the required educational and deans approval.

Any vacancies (Type 1/LATs) arising on this training scheme between now and the date of the interview may be offered to applicants applying to this advertisement.

An electronic recruitment pack with mandatory application form may be obtained by emailing lynsey.sennitt@easterndeanery.nhs.uk. The application form (plus 10 copies) should be returned no later than noon on Friday, November 3 2006. Please quote reference SpR/65.
