Training Scheme in Anaesthesia

ROTATING SPECIALIST REGISTRAR ANAESTHESIA

Five Posts from 1st February 2004

Date published: 25 09 2003
Closing date: 16 10 2003

Applications are invited for 5 Rotating Specialist Registrars in Anaesthesia, commencing February 1 2004 to join the 5-year programme in this Deanery, based on the Teaching Centres in Cambridge, Norwich and Papworth, coupled with the District Hospitals in Bedford, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, King's Lynn, Luton, Peterborough and Yarmouth.

These posts could be for trainees wishing to obtain advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine. The scheme also offers a College approved extended training module in Chronic Pain Management. There is the possibility of more posts available at interview. One of these posts will start at Addenbrooke's Hospital and 4 in a District General Hospital for 6 months before moving to a teaching centre.

During the first 2 years of the programme trainees will receive modular training in the subspecialties. Formal teaching during Year 1 centres on the Anglia day-release Final FRCA Course. Once the FRCA has been achieved, an academic attachment may be available, particularly directed at improving teaching, critical review and basic research skills.

The 3rd and 4th years, spent at District Hospitals, include organised training and experience in management and administration, audit and teaching. There is ample opportunity to conduct clinical research. The final year, based at a Teaching Centre, is tailored to suit the Consultant aspirations of the trainee.

There are excellent facilities for intermediate and advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine, including the possibility of a 6-month post in General Medicine. This programme is for doctors who wish to obtain a CCST in Anaesthesia, who have completed at least 2 years' approved training in Anaesthesia, and who have already passed the Primary FRCA examination (or equivalent).

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and dean's approval.

Any vacancies (Type 1/FTTAs/LATs) arising on this training scheme between now and the date of the interview may be offered to applicants applying to this advertisement.
