In January 2011 the ALERT Team became part of the Acute Pain Management Service at Papworth Hospital. The ALERT Team was established in July 2009 in response to national guidelines from NICE (National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence) and the NPSA (National Patient Safety Agency).  The team consists of seven Advanced Nurse Practitioners and provides a service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the hospital.
